Comprehensive, integrated rating systems that combine formal quality measurements with crowd-sourced ratings from patients could improve the usefulness of physician review websites, according to a June 13, 2017, article in JAMA Dermatology. About one quarter of U.S. adults say they have used a physician rating site, according to the article. The authors conducted a qualitative analysis of patient-generated user reviews of 45 dermatology providers in Philadelphia, Houston, and Seattle, on the rating websites Yelp and ZocDoc. The average Yelp score (518 reviews) was 3.65 out of 5.0. The average ZocDoc score of the same 45 practices (4,921 reviews) was 4.72 stars out of 5.0.
