Fentanyl Test Strip May Be Tool to Combat the Opioid Crisis

​A test strip designed for medical professionals to test urine can also be used by heroin and cocaine users to see whether the drug they ingested contained the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl, according to a January 2, 2019, article in the Wall Street Journal. Overdose-prevention organizations have been handing out the fentanyl test strips for two years, the author said, and the practice is spreading across the country. Studies have shown the tests to be accurate, the author said, with one placing its ability to detect fentanyl at 96% and another placing it at 100%.
