Opioids, Telemedicine, and Malnutrition among the Topics Addressed by OIG’s Updated Work Plan

Opioid prescribing and telemedicine are among the topics the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) plans to address as part of the November 2017 update to its work plan. As a way to combat the opioid public health emergency, OIG says it will identify Medicaid beneficiaries who received an extreme amount of opioids as a way to cut down on doctor shopping, as well as to identify the doctors associated with this practice. Medicaid programs are seeing a significant increase in claims related to telemedicine service, OIG said.
