Joint Commission announced on October 31, 2016, that it will revise several requirements in two chapters of its comprehensive accreditation manuals for ambulatory care centers, behavioral healthcare facilities, critical access hospitals, other hospitals, home care, and nursing care centers. The revisions will come in the environment-of-care and life safety chapters of the manual. Joint Commission is doing this to maintain alignment with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) adoption of the 2012 edition of the National Fire Protection Association's Life Safety Code (NFPA 101) and Health Care Facilities Code (NFPA 99) (see the June 15, 2016, HRC Alerts).
