Doctors have long maintained that fear of being sued leads to too much testing. This has been difficult to prove, however, because of a lack of a control group. Some evidence may now be available, according to a July 23, 2018, article in the New York Times. The article discussed a recent study involving active-duty members of the military. These patients have access to military hospitals but are barred from suing government doctors or hospitals for malpractice, the Times said.
