New Patient Safety Goal Targets Alarm Safety

The Joint Commission has announced a new National Patient Safety Goal that directs accredited organizations to plan for and address risks related to alarm safety. The goal, applicable to hospitals and critical access hospitals, will be implemented in two phases. Beginning January 1, 2014, accredited organizations will be expected to make alarm safety a priority and identify the alarm hazards that they will address based on their individual situations.
