Fraud Prevention Rule to Save Taxpayers $1.6 Billion

On April 24, 2012, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a final rule intended to prevent Medicare fraud. CMS estimates that it will save taxpayers nearly $1.6 billion over 10 years. The rule allows CMS to verify the credentials of providers that order or certify medical equipment, services, and supplies associated with Medicare.
