An employee who works in a Pittsburgh emergency department (ED) contracted tuberculosis (TB) in the middle of March, according to an April 20, 2018, article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The hospital has been working with the local health department to trace and locate the 4,700 patients and staff members who might have come into contact with the employee, the article said. The hospital said it believes the likelihood of contracting TB from the employee is low, but is working with the county health department to notify and test those who came into contact with the employee at no charge.
