​An article in the February 2018 issue of the Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing outlines ways to promote evidenced-based practices for pain management, while dispelling certain "urban legends." Advice for pain medication orders is filled with "misinformation and confusion," the author said. The author began by clarifying often misunderstood terms such as as-needed range orders, dosing to intensity, and therapeutic duplication of orders. She then set out to correct certain misconceptions, including noting that Joint Commission does not have any standards that prohibit the use of range orders.
