Another Reason to Get the Flu Shot: Infants Born to Mothers with Severe Flu Are Less Healthy at Birth

​Infants born to women with severe influenza during the pregnancy are more likely to be preterm and to be less healthy at birth than those born to women without severe influenza, according to a January 9, 2019, research article in the journal Birth Defects Research. The study was conducted using data from 490 women who had H1N1 influenza in 2009 and 1,451 women who did not have the flu.
