A Healthcare Risk Control System member recently inquired about recommendations for safe practices during vehicle transport of patients or residents who use oxygen (O2) containers. Indeed, several Texas nursing home residents died in a severe bus fire during evacuation for Hurricane Rita in September 2005. O2 containers likely contributed to the fire, investigators say.
