Bed-exit alarms are an early warning system and are intended to be used as an adjunct to staff supervision and other fall management efforts. Although none of the bed-exit alarm technologies are complex, there are numerous issues associated with their implementation and use. In this article, we provide recommendations for effectively implementing a bed-exit alarm system. These recommendations are based on the available literature, user surveys, and the testing we conducted for our evaluation of this technology.
