  • The Mindray BeneFusion VP5 is a large-volume infusion device used to deliver fluid, medications, blood, or total parenteral nutrition to a patient over a defined period at a specific flow rate or dose rate. There are three different pump designs as listed below; we evaluated the first design.
    • Infusion Pump with Conventional Infusion Sets
    • Infusion Pump with Silicone Specified Infusion Sets
    • Infusion Pump with PVC Specified Infusion Sets
  • Major device components and software features:
    • Pump—Used to deliver intravenous infusion therapy through a consumable administration set
      • Operational range:
        • Flow rate: 0.1-2,000 mL/hr
        • Volume to be infused (VTBI): 0.10-9,999.99 mL
        • Flow rate, incremental: 0.01 mL (0.1-99.99 mL/hr); 0.1 mL (100-999.9 mL/hr); 1 mL (1,000-2,000 mL/hr)
      • Infusion modes:
        • Primary infusion (rate mode)
        • Time mode
        • Body weight mode
        • Ramp up/down mode
        • Sequential mode
        • Micro-infusion mode
        • Loading dose mode
      • User controls:
        • Backlit hardkeys are used to configure parameters and settings.
        • Arrow keys are used for value entry.
      • Display: 7.8 × 4.5 cm (3.1 × 1.8 in)
      • Weight: 2.4 kg (5.3 lb) with battery and IV clamp
      • Dimensions (L × W × H): 245 × 174 × 87 mm (9.64 × 6.85 × 3.42 in)
      • Battery life: More than 9 hr at 25 mL/hr
      • The pump is normally connected to an IV pole with a clamp.
    • Administration sets—Mindray has options for both proprietary consumable administration sets and nonproprietary consumable administration sets.
      • Proprietary consumable administration sets: Various set options are available, including non-DEHP options.
      • Nonproprietary consumable administration sets: Various set options are available, including non-DEHP options.
        • The pump has been precalibrated with sets from B. Braun and BOON. The pump is able to accommodate a variety of other administration sets from a variety of manufacturers with on-site calibration.
        • For those other nonproprietary sets, the manufacturer recommends model-specific performance calibration (i.e., accuracy, air bubble, and pressure check) to be performed before use.
