Preview

  • Pulse oximetry is used to analyze SpO2 and PR in various clinical settings across the continuum of care. Pulse oximetry technology may be found in many form factors for either continuous or periodic (i.e., spot-check) monitoring:
    • As stand-alone devices for continuous monitoring—for example, bedside monitors and wearable monitors
    • As stand-alone devices for periodic monitoring—for example, fingertip-worn spot-check devices
    • As a component of multiparameter monitors for continuous monitoring—for example, low-acuity continuous monitors and ICU physiologic monitors
    • As a component of multiparameter monitors for periodic monitoring—for example, spot-check vital signs monitors
    • As an optional component for defibrillators
  • Major device components and software features: a) A reusable or disposable pulse oximetry sensor, which is attached to the patient (e.g., finger, forehead, foot, ear) to acquire SpO2 measurements.
