The Connex Spot Monitor (CSM) is the latest addition to Welch Allyn's Connex monitoring line. The monitor can be configured to validate any patient ID information entered into the device to ensure that data is always stored under a valid ID (that is, a patient ID as opposed to, for example, a clinician ID). The unit can also be configured to meet individual hospitals' data validation and clinician authentication needs and also facilitates early-warning and rapid-response protocols. The monitor ensures that data is correctly time stamped, and it loses no functionality during network downtime. Additionally, the vendor offers an online service dashboard that allows facilities to remotely configure their fleet of devices. On the downside, we believe there is a small possibility of a patient's data being lost or mismatched if the user follows an incorrect workflow. (This is the reason we rate the unit three stars rather than four.)
