Bringing Physicians On-Site in Assisted Living

​As assisted-living residents more closely resemble those who, 20 years ago, would have been in nursing homes, more assisted-living communities are seeking medical directors and physicians for their staffs, according to an article in the December 2014 Caring for the Ages. Having physicians on-site represents a "transformation" for assisted living, according to the article, and can result in fewer hospitalizations and hospital readmissions for assisted-living residents. Visits to primary care providers, which can be costly and time-consuming in their own right, can be limited as well.
