Nursing Home Quality Indicators Show Mixed Trends over Past Decade

​Four sets of quality data reported to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) provide mixed messages regarding trends in nursing home quality and indicate a need for greater data refinement by CMS, according to a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). One of the four data sets, based on consumer complaints, indicates a decline in nursing home quality, with complaints increasing 21% from 2005 to 2014.
