Nursing Home Quality Indicators Show Mixed Trends over Past Decade

Four sets of quality data reported to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) provide mixed messages regarding trends in nursing home quality and indicate a need for greater data refinement by CMS, according to a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). One of the four data sets, based on consumer complaints, indicates a decline in nursing home quality, with complaints increasing 21% from 2005 to 2014.
