​On July 30, 2013, the Public Broadcasting Service’s (PBS) Frontlineaired Life and Death in Assisted Living, a one-hour program that focuses its largely negative investigation on the largest assisted-living company in the United States. The program tells the stories of a handful of residents who lived in the chain’s facilities, including a resident who died after allegedly developing pressure ulcers during her residence; ultimately, a jury awarded her family $23 million in punitive damages.
