​The Joint Commission has revised its requirements for National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) 7, which will require nursing care centers to implement evidence-based practices to prevent healthcare-associated infections due to multidrug-resistant organisms, beginning January 1, 2018. The Joint Commission's press release, dated May 31, 2017, notes the addition of carbapenem-resistant enterobacteriaceae among the multidrug-resistant organisms covered by the NPSG.
