A continuing care retirement community recently asked CCRM for guidance on the use of nonphysician practitioners (e.g., physician assistant, nurse practitioner) for certain resident care tasks. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, after the physician’s initial comprehensive visit to a resident, the physician may delegate some tasks to a nonphysician practitioner, but such tasks must be performed in collaboration with and under the supervision of the physician.
