Video | Enhancing Falls Prevention: Collaborative Informational Session

Falls are relatively common in healthcare, accounting for 250,000 injuries and up to 11,000 deaths each year in the United States alone. Despite ongoing safety efforts, the rate of falls in healthcare continues to increase.

ECRI and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) PSO recently announced a new opportunity for healthcare providers to work collaboratively alongside both subject matter experts and peers to identify and implement strategies to reduce falls-related risks and improve safety. The collaborative will implement a learning system approach to disseminate patient safety best practices across the healthcare community. Using performance improvement tools, participants will receive feedback on how to better implement falls-related safety solutions.

Speakers

Shannon Davila, MSN, RN, CPPS, CIC, CPHQ, FAPIC

Director Total Systems Safety, ECRI
Shannon currently serves as the Director of ECRI’s Total Systems Safety. With a clinical background in adult critical care nursing, Shannon specializes in infection prevention, patient safety, and healthcare quality improvement. She currently sits on the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety. She has authored a book and published several articles that focus on the importance of infection prevention and patient safety. In 2016, Shannon was honored with the APIC Heroes of Infection Prevention Award.

Shannon has served in the U.S. Air Force and is appointed to sit on the New Jersey Commission for Women Veterans. Shannon is certified in just culture, patient safety, infection control, healthcare quality, and as a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer and High Reliability coach. She received her BSN from the University of Southern Maine, her MSN from Walden University, and in 2020 was designated by APIC as a fellow in infection prevention (FAPIC).
