Overview

While treating and preventing patient wounds is an essential part of patient care, it is also a difficult one. If a patient has complex wounds that cannot heal with typical treatment, they may require more advanced treatment in a healthcare setting. However, there are many options available for advanced wound care, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, debridement, revascularization, bioengineered skin substitutes, and compression therapy.

Speakers

Jason Launders

Director of Operations, Device Evaluation, ECRI
Jason Launders has been at ECRI since 1998 and is currently the director of operations for the Device Evaluation group. Jason's primary responsibility is managing ECRI's laboratory-based evaluations of medical technologies. Jason holds a master's degree in medical physics and spent his earlier time at ECRI evaluating a wide range of diagnostic imaging technologies, such as CT, MRI, PACS, and digital radiography. Today, he is responsible for developing the content of evaluations to ensure they meet the needs of our clients.

Austin Hwang

Project Officer, Device Evaluation, ECRI
Austin Hwang has been with ECRI since 2021 and is a project officer in the Device Evaluation group. Prior to joining ECRI, Austin studied at the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated with a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering. At ECRI, he is responsible for establishing key performance indicators for medical devices in Functional Equivalents and supporting the development of ECRI's wound care content through his evaluation of advanced wound dressings.

Shannon Rose, MPH, COTA/L, LTC-CIP

Senior Consultant, Aging Services, ECRI
Shannon Rose has more than eight years of clinical experience providing skilled care as a COTA/L for geriatric populations across the continuum of care. In 2018, she earned her master's in public health and joined ECRI's Aging Services team, which provides risk management, quality improvement, and resident safety services to aging services organizations nationwide. She led a three-year Falls Collaborative for 12 multi-site aging services organizations that implemented quality improvement projects leading to an 11% decrease in fall rates and $1.1 million in savings. Shannon earned her Long-Term Care Certification in Infection Prevention in 2022 and works with leaders in aging services to improve their infection prevention and control programs.

Anna L. Thomas MSN, RN, CCRN, CPPS, CNL

Patient Safety Analyst III, ECRI
Anna started her career as a critical care nurse in a neuroscience intensive care unit. She earned a master's of science in nursing (MSN) and became a certified clinical nurse leader (CNL). She served as a CNL for a 12 bed ICU where she was responsible for nursing sensitive quality indicators, risk mitigation, cost reduction, event reporting and analysis, and utilizing data to drive quality improvement projects. She chaired the Evidence Based Practice and Nursing Research committee. In her current role, she utilizes her clinical background to review ECRI publications to ensure the most accurate and current information, has redesigned the research response process, and was on the inaugural Safety Sprint team focusing on mitigating the staffing shortage. As co-chair of the Causal Analysis team, she is responsible for data collection and analysis for multiple forms of causal analysis.
