POC Ultrasound - February, 2016
January 29, 2016 | Procurement Trends
Point-of-care (POC) ultrasound exams are performed by the treating clinician or other non-imaging-specialist healthcare professionals. This approach can speed patient management decisions, providing more time-efficient and effective patient care. A POC ultrasound exam can be used to answer a specific clinical question, to guide interventional procedures such as therapeutic injection of medications, and for a range of other applications performed by various healthcare providers. Outside of healthcare facilities, it is used at trauma and disaster sites, during extra-hospital patient transport, and at sporting events. Member interest in POC ultrasound systems doubled from 2013 to 2015 in terms of the number of quotations analyzed by SELECTplus.
