Nucleic acid sequencers are designed for the automated determination of the precise sequence of the base pairs (i.e., adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine for DNA or adenine, uracil, cytosine, and guanine for RNA) in a sample of nucleic acid. The growing member interest in this technology from 2019 to 2021 can be attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. Several of these devices can run diagnostic tests to detect SARS-CoV2 viral RNA. Their ability to sequence SARS-CoV2 can also help track transmission, identify mutations that could cause spread or lower vaccine efficacy, and aid researchers in developing therapeutics. More time is needed to see if interest in nucleic acid sequencers will continue to grow in 2022. ...
