Magnetic resonance/ultrasound (MR/US) fusion systems combine a pre-operative MR image with an intraoperative US image to help target areas of the prostate for biopsy. Compared to conventional biopsy techniques, the use of MR/US fusion may improve detection rates of prostate cancer. Teaching hospitals accounted for 50% of SELECTplus member interest in MR/US fusion systems from 2013 to the present.
