Low-temperature sterilization technologies allow for heat-sensitive medical devices and supplies to be sterilized. The four main low-temperature sterilization options are: hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), peracetic acid (PAA), ethylene oxide (EtO), and ozone. Amongst S+ member hospitals, H2O2 has accounted for the majority of interest in low-temperature sterilization since 2011. We believe that increased interest in H2O2 in 2012 and 2013 resulted from dissatisfaction with PAA sterilizers and the ability of newer H2O2 sterilizers to reprocess more types of devices and scopes. Interest in EtO has been flat in the past two years and members have shown no interest in ozone.
