JAMA Editorial: Organizations Must Do More to Recognize and Treat Elder Abuse and Intimate Partner Violence

​Intimate partner violence and elder abuse and neglect too often go undetected and unaddressed, write the authors of an editorial in the December 2018 issue of JAMA Internal Medicine. The authors cite studies showing that elder abuse is widespread and can lead to negative physical, psychological, and financial impacts. However, a recent study by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force found current screening tools to be insufficient. The authors call these findings a "clear wake-up call" that more must be done to address this issue.
