FDA: High Biotin Intake Can Alter Test Results

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning providers and consumers that high levels of biotin in a patient's diet can interfere with lab test results, according to a November 28, 2017, safety alert. FDA is increasingly receiving reports of adverse events that occur in patients whose test results were skewed by a high intake of biotin, including one death. Various tests can be affected by the level of biotin in a patient's blood, including cardiovascular diagnostic and hormone tests.
