AMA Guidance on Payment Models Promotes Team-Based Care

Physicians who lead team-based care should receive payments for services provided by the care team and establish systems to appropriately disburse payments to other members of the team, recommends a report issued by the American Medical Association’s (AMA) House of Delegates. Team-based care delivery is “quickly emerging as the preferred method for providing coordinated, cost-effective, high-quality health care” based on evidence that the model can improve quality and reduce costs, according to a November 18, 2013, AMA press release, which outlines the report’s major recommendations.
