November 11, 2016 | Strategic Insights for Ambulatory Care
Data breaches are on the rise in the healthcare industry, though the vast majority are small or medium in size, according to a series of infographics published October 31, 2016, in the Risk Management Monitor. "While some may think that the majority of breaches are large," the post noted, 99% of breaches occurring between 2011 and 2016 included fewer than one million records lost, and almost half (49%) involved fewer than 100 records. Still, the healthcare industry experienced more cyberattacks than any other industry over the past five years, with breaches of electronic protected health information (ePHI) causing a median loss of $150,000.
