To educate healthcare leaders about the importance and structure of an integrated patient-centered system to improve quality of care and patient safety, the Joint Commission has added a new "Patient Safety Systems" chapter to its 2015 Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals, states an October 20, 2014, Joint Commission news release. Although the information was prepared for hospitals, the chapter provides important information for any healthcare organization creating a culture of safety wherein staff and leaders work together to eliminate complacency, promote collective mindfulness, treat one another with respect, and learn from patient safety events. According to the Joint Commission, the chapter does not have any new requirements.
