One-Third of Pediatric Patients Rely on Primary Care Providers for Mental Healthcare

​One-third of pediatric patients who were treated for mental health conditions in an outpatient setting from 2008 to 2011 received care solely from a primary care physician, concludes a study published online October 12, 2015, in Pediatrics. Roughly the same proportion of adult patients also received mental healthcare in 2012 from a primary care physician, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (see the October 16, 2015, Physician Practice E-News).
