FDA Launches New Dashboard for Searching Adverse Drug Events Database
October 16, 2017 | Strategic Insights for Ambulatory Care
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched a user-friendly search tool within FDA's Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) to make it easier for clinicians, patients, and others to search for adverse event reports associated with drugs and biologic products, states FDA's September 28, 2017, press release. The new dashboard allows users to search for and organize data by criteria such as the drug/biologic product, patient age, type of adverse event, year that the event occurred, or to show data within a specific timeframe. The agency notes that some limitations to the data remain. For example, FDA states that finding a report about an adverse event associated with a drug or biologic product does not mean the product caused the event.
