The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) published an InfoSheet in July 2012 detailing potential hazards for workers who use cleaning chemicals on a regular basis. Many maintenance workers, janitors, housekeepers, and other workers in healthcare facilities use potentially hazardous cleaning chemicals daily. The hazards involved with cleaning chemicals can range from rashes and burns to asthma. Many factors influence whether a chemical may cause health problems, including the ingredients, storage and use, and ventilation during use.
