ACOG Updates Morning Sickness Guidance to Avoid Commonly Used Medication

​Expectant mothers who suffer from morning sickness should use vitamin B6 and/or the antihistamine doxylamine, and avoid using the previously recommended drug ondansetron (Zofran) because new data suggests that it could cause more harm than expected, according to recently updated recommendations from the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Earlier guidance from ACOG recommended using ondansetron to manage morning sickness, but ACOG has changed its position as a result of new data suggesting a link to birth defects.
