Nurses Delay Retirement by Seeking Nonhospital Roles
August 8, 2014 | Strategic Insights for Ambulatory Care
Nurses are delaying retirement and seeking employment in nonhospital settings, such as ambulatory care, according to findings published in the July 2014 issue of Health Affairs. Researchers used data from the Current Population Survey (CPS) and the American Community Survey (ACS), identifying 70,724 registered nurses (RNs) between the ages of 23 and 69 in the CPS and 307,187 such nurses in the ACS. Survey responses between 1969 and 2012 were aggregated and used to estimate the number of nurses employed full-time during each year of the review period.
