The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has updated its guidance document, NIOSH List of Antineoplastic and Other Hazardous Drugs in Healthcare Settings 2012. Originally published as part of a September 2004 NIOSH Alert, “Preventing Occupational Exposures to Antineoplastic and Other Hazardous Drugs in Health Care Settings,” the list was first updated in 2010. For the 2012 update, NIOSH reviewed approximately 70 new drugs that received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and approximately 180 drugs that received new special warnings (usually black box warnings) based on reported adverse effects in patients from October 2007 to December 2009.
