Stressful Workplace versus the Electronic Health Record: Which Is More Likely to Contribute to Burnout?

​One of every four family physicians reports symptoms of burnout, according to a July 2017 research letter in JAMA Internal Medicine. The authors attempted to identify risk factors associated with burnout using data from 1,752 practicing family physicians who responded to a survey in applying to continue their American Board of Family Medicine certification in 2016. Factors related to a stressful or hectic workplace had the strongest association with burnout.
