Expired Drugs Frequently Stored in Medical Offices’ Sample Closets

Roughly one in seven drug packages kept in medical offices’ pharmaceutical sample closets is expired, concludes a study published in the May-June issue of the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine. Experts say that practices should either diligently monitor samples or stop accepting them to reduce wasted time and money. According to a June 5, 2012, American Medical News article, at least $2.2 billion worth of drug samples is wasted each year.
