​Fluoroquinolones are not associated with retinal detachment, or aortic aneurysm or dissection, reports the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a May 10, 2017, update to a safety communication. As part of its ongoing review of the antibiotic class, the agency mandated label changes in 2016 warning that it had received reports of increased risk for disabling side effects from the drug, such as tendinitis, tendon rupture, muscle pain and weakness, joint pain and swelling, peripheral neuropathy, and effects on the central nervous system.
