A structured weight loss program led by a primary care physician can help some adult patients with type 2 diabetes sustain remission, according to a March 6, 2019, study published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. The study took place in primary care practices in the United Kingdom, and researchers enrolled patients ages 20 to 65 years with type 2 diabetes of less than 6 years' duration who also had a body mass index between 27 and 45 kg/m2 and were not insulin dependent. Researchers also followed a control group who received care guided by current best practices.
