​Ambulatory care providers can leverage technology and contemporary design concepts in their physical space to help improve patient satisfaction, increase efficiency, and reduce costs, according to a January 6, 2016, Health Facilities Management article. By taking some instances of care that traditionally took place in offices and moving them online (the author calls the Internet "the most prevalent care site" for ambulatory providers), practices can offer smaller, less crowded waiting rooms, which are often viewed more positively by patients than larger, more crowded waiting rooms. They can also consider offices in more diverse settings for certain "transactional" services (e.g., vaccinations, physicals for school sports teams, assessment of an acute injury), including store fronts and retail locations that offer better parking, longer hours, and lighter, more inviting design.
