Joint Commission Revises National Patient Safety Goal on Suicide Prevention and Improved At-Risk Patient Care

The Joint Commission announced has revised its 2018 National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) addressing suicide prevention "to improve quality and safety of care for patients treated for behavioral health conditions and those identified at high risk for suicide," according to a December 5, 2018, announcement. The revised NPSG, which applies to Joint Commission–accredited hospitals and behavioral healthcare organizations includes seven elements of performance—an increase from the three in the existing NPSG.
