Antibiotic Stewardship Programs are Helping to Reduce MRSA, C. difficile, and More

Implementation of antibiotic stewardship programs has reduced rates of colonization and infection of several antibiotic-resistant bacteria, as well as Clostridium difficile, according to a study published in the Lancet. The authors conducted a systematic review of 32 studies published from January 1, 1960, through May 31, 2016, on the effect of antibiotic stewardship programs. The studies in the meta-analysis comprised 9,056,241 patient days and 159 estimates of incidence ratios of target infections and colonization.
