Healthcare risk managers may be interested in a November 15, 2013, (Milwaukee) Journal Sentinel article about the recent shooting and subsequent arrest of an armed man at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. According to the article, police responded to a tip that the man, a wanted felon, was at the hospital visiting his baby. When they arrived in the newborn progressive care unit on the seventh floor and told the man he was under arrest, he put down the baby and fled down a hallway. During the pursuit that followed, the man struggled with officers and was shot in the wrist. A police officer quoted in the article affirmed that this was not an active-shooter situation in which “a guy came in to shoot somebody.”
