OIG Work Plan Includes Validation of Hospital Quality Data, Reviews of Payments

​New initiatives in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Inspector General's (OIG) latest annual work plan include reviews of Medicare credits for replaced implanted medical devices, validation of hospital-submitted quality data, and reviews of payments made for certain Medicare Part B services provided during inpatient stays. More than a dozen existing OIG focus areas are still present in the new plan, including a review of compliance with the two-midnight rule, reconciliation of outlier payments, and Medicare oversight of hospital-owned provider-based facilities.
