Diversity and Inclusion: A Strategic Approach

Ways in which people can feel different from others are not limited to race and gender, and all of us have felt different at some point, emphasized Erickajoy Daniels, senior vice president of diversity and inclusion, Aurora Health Care, speaking September 21, 2017, at the fall conference of the Wisconsin Society for Healthcare Risk Management. “Diversity simply means difference," said Daniels. “Inclusion is the environment where that difference can thrive." Inclusion of diverse experiences and perspectives can make for stronger healthcare organizations. It can improve quality and service, communication between clinicians and patients, health outcomes, engagement, and market share, and it can decrease health disparities and turnover.
