​Patient safety and operating room (OR) efficiency can be compatible, according to a September 21, 2018, research article in PLOS One. The authors conducted a retrospective observational study on all patients undergoing surgeries under general anesthesia at a Japanese hospital before and after it became accredited by Joint Commission International. As part of accreditation, the hospital had to implement patient safety measures that some feared might affect the length of surgical procedures.
