CDC Reports Healthcare Worker Influenza Vaccination Statistics for 2013-2014 Season

Approximately 90% of healthcare personnel working in hospitals received an influenza vaccination for the 2013-2014 season, an increase of 7% from the 2012-2013 season, states an article from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) September 19, 2014, Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. According to the report, 75% of healthcare personnel from all settings reported receiving an influenza vaccination during the 2013-2014 season, which is similar to the 72% coverage reported in the 2012-2013 season. Healthcare personnel working in settings where vaccination was required achieved the highest rate of coverage at 98%, whereas healthcare personnel working in settings where influenza vaccination was not required but promoted or settings where there was no requirement or promotion of vaccination only achieved rates of 72% and 48%, respectively.
