Incidence and Impact of Disruptive Behaviors in the ED
July 25, 2012 | Risk Management News
Disruptive behavior of healthcare professionals should be reported to a multidisciplinary committee whose responsibilities include reviewing complaints and developing actions plans for response, says an article in the July 2012 Journal of Emergency Medicine. By contrast, one-to-one interventions for disruptive behavior can encounter problems with individual bias, established peer relationships, and potential conflicts of interest. The article summarizes findings from a survey on physician and nurse disruptive behaviors in the emergency department (ED).
